Mathematical models and finite elements for reservoir simulation

During the last twenty years, many numerical simulators for oil reservoirs have been developed. They are now widely used by the oil companies and they include refined physical and thermodynamical effects. However, this research has taken place primarily within the oil companies, and has been thus somewhat inaccessible to the scientific community. The obstacle to communication has not been any kind of confidentiality, but has rather come from the specialized language used in the oil industry, together with an increasing complexity of the physical models underlying the numerical simulators.

Engineering Analysis With ANSYS Software

This book is very much the result of a collaboration between the three co-authors: Professors Nakasone and Yoshimoto of Tokyo University of Science, Japan and Professor Stolarski of Brunel University, United Kingdom. This collaboration started some 10 years ago and initially covered only research topics of interest to the authors. Exchange of academic staff and research students have taken place and archive papers have been published. However, being academic does not mean research only. The other important activity of any academic is to teach students on degree courses. Since the authors are involved in teaching students various aspects of finite engineering analyses using ANSYS it is only natural that the need for a textbook to aid students in solving problems with ANSYS has been identified.

Convection in Porous Media

We found that it was possible to fit a lot of the new material under the existing section headings. However, we nowhave newsections on bidisperse porous media, local thermal nonequilibrium, electrodiffusion, transverse heterogeneity in channels, thermal development of forced convection, effects of temperature-dependent viscosity, constructal multiscale flow structures, optimal spacings for plates separated by porous structures, control of convection using vertical vibration, and bioconvection.

Applied Dimensional Analysis and Modeling

This book develops the ideas of dimensions, dimensional homogeneity, and model laws to considerable depth and with admirable rigor, enabling Dr. Szirtes to provide us with intriguing insights into an impressive range of physical examples— spanning such topics as the impact velocity of a meteorite, the lengths of dogs’ tails in urban areas, the price of land, the cracking of window glass, and so on—and all without the tedium so often involved in a conventional step-by-step physical analysis.

Petroleum Reservoir Simulation

This book is intended for theoretically minded engineers, and practically oriented mathematicians and scientists who want to understand how to develop and use computer models of petroleum reservoirs. This is not a numerical analysis book. The book should be suitable for short courses designed for practising engineers and for self study.

Principles of Applied Reservoir Simulation

Principles of Applied Reservoir Simulation and its accompanying CD offer users a fully functioning reservoir simulator. Together, the book and CD provide a hands-on introduction to the process of reservoir modeling and show how to apply reservoir simulation technology and principles.

The book begins with a reservoir engineering primer that makes information accessible to geologists, geophysicists, and hydrologists, and serves as a review for petroleum engineers. The second part of the volume, covering modeling principles, has been substantially revised and updated since the first edition.

The simulator, WINBD4, is a version of the first edition's BOAST4D flow simulator, modified for use in a Windows operating environment with a dynamic memory management system that expands the applicability of the program. It also includes a visualization feature that provides a 3D perspective of the reservoir.

A Practical Companion to Reservoir Simulation

This workbook is a practical companion to the second edition of the textbook Reservoir Stimulation. The two books are intended to be used together. This new volume should be particularly useful for the training of new engineers and petroleum engineering students, as it contains approximately 100 problems and their solutions, plus a lengthy chapter giving data necessary for designing a stimulation treatment. Chapters are included containing practical problems on reservoir and well considerations, rock mechanics, fracturing fluids and proppants, fracture calibration treatments, design and modeling of propped fractures, evaluation of fracture treatments, design of matrix treatments, diversion and treatment evaluation, design and performance of acid fractures and stimulation of horizontal wells. These chapters are labeled with letters from A to J to distinguish them from their companion chapters in Reservoir Stimulation. Equations.

Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media

This book offers a fundamental and practical introduction to the use of computational methods, particularly finite element methods, in the simulation of fluid flows in porous media. It is the first book to cover a wide variety of flows, including single-phase, two-phase, black oil, volatile, compositional, nonisothermal, and chemical compositional flows in both ordinary porous and fractured porous media. In addition, a range of computational methods are used, and benchmark problems of nine comparative solution projects organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers are presented for the first time in book form. Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media reviews multiphase flow equations and computational methods to introduce basic terminologies and notation. A thorough discussion of practical aspects of the subject is presented in a consistent manner, and the level of treatment is rigorous without being unnecessarily abstract. Each chapter ends with bibliographic information and exercises.

Oil Well Stimulation By Schechter

This book is intended as a text for both undergraduate and gaduate course in petroleum enineering, with particular emphasis on the subject of well stimulation. There are ample materials and sufficient end-of-chapter homework problems of varying difficulty to satisfy the needs of both courses. Parts of the book have also served a basis for industrial short courses, and it is hoped that some of the material presented will also be of value to researchers engaged in developing new stimulation processes or products. However, the primary audience is thought to be univerity students interested in petoleum engineering.

Petroleum reservoir simulation

One of the best tools that the reservoir engineer has at his or her disposal, allowing the engineer and geologist to create the most efficient and cost-effective plan possible for drilling and production. If a simulation is faulty, too general or inaccurate in any way, this can affect the production, cost and time spent at the site, which affects the bottom line. In this volume, packed with cutting-edge information on new technology and techniques, the authors show you how to:

Eliminate guesswork in reservoir simulation

Translate more efficient simulations into higher production

Reduce costs at the site with a more efficient plan

Create good habits that will carry you through your career

This book offers a practical, real-world approach to solving reservoir simulation problems. As a reference for the engineer in the field, it offers a new approach using more practical mathematical models for the engineer to devise his or her own approach to a particular problem.

Incorporating ideas used for years by the authors in university classrooms and in industry short courses, this book is ideal for the engineering student. It shows the student how it's done in the REAL world.

Contents:

Introduction; Single-phase fluid flow equations in multidimensional domain; Flow equations using CVFD terminology; Simulation with a block-centered grid; Simulation with a point-distributed grid; Well representation in simulators; Single-phase flow equation for various fluids; Linearization of flow equations; Methods of solution of linear equations; and, Introduction to modeling multiphase flow in petroleum reservoirs.
