Forsthoffer's Rotating Equipment Handbooks Vol 2 Pumps

This Series has evolved from my personal experience over the last 40 years with the design, selection, testing, start-up and condition monitoring of Rotating Equipment. Most of the concept figures were originally written on a blackboard or whiteboard during a training session and on a spare piece of paper or I beam during a start-up or a problem solving plant visit.

My entire career has been devoted to this interesting and important field. Then and now more than ever, the cost of rotating equipment downtime can severely limit revenue and profits. A large process unit today can produce daily revenues in excess of US$5 million. And yet, the Operators, Millwrights and Engineers responsible for the safety and reliability of this equipment have not been afforded the opportunity to learn the design basis for this equipment in practical terms. I have also observed in the last ten years or so, that the number of experienced personnel in this field is diminishing rapidly.

Petroleum refining - Crude oil petroleum products

Petroleum products are those fractions derived from petroleum that have commercial value as a bulk product. Petrochemicals, in contrast, are individual chemicals, derived from bulk fractions, that are used as the basic building blocks of the chemical industry. Gases and liquid fuels are currently the main products of the petroleum industry (see table). However, other products, such as lubricating oils, waxes, and asphalt, have also added to the value of petroleum resources. See also Petrochemical; Petroleum.

Handbook of petroleum refining processes

Thoroughly revised and expanded by 50%, this edition of this handbook offers petroleum and chemical engineers a comprehensive guide to all aspects of petroleum refining processes. The book features new chapters from Chevron, Mobil, Shell, Exxon, UOP, and Texaco which define technology, pollution-control, and economic aspects of 60 petroleum refining processes. Each chapter covers the process chemistry and thermodynamics, product and by-product specification of all plants. Also presented are estimates of capital and operating costs, and information on the design of additions to existing refineries and construction of new ones.

Petroleum Refining: Separation Processes

The primary process for separating the hydrocarbon components of crude oil is fractional distillation. Crude oil distillers separate crude oil into fractions for subsequent processing in such units as catalytic reformers, cracking units, alkylation units, or cokers. In turn, each of these more complex processing units also incorporates a fractional distillation tower to separate its own reaction products.

Modern crude oil distillation units operate continuously over long periods of time and are much larger than the fractionaldistillation units employed in chemical or other industries. Process rates are commonly delineated in American barrels; units capable

Thermal and Catalytic Processes in Petroleum Refining

The book is essentially the application of reaction and reactor engineering to petroleum refining and steam cracking along with descriptions of current technology. As a result it is a great reference for chemical engineers working in the petroleum refining and petrochemical industries or for those teaching reactor engineering who would like to include examples from petroleum refining.

Examines the thermal and catalytic processes involved in the refining of petroleum, including ` visbreaking, coking, pyrolysis, catalytic cracking, oligomerization, alkyl hydrofining, hydrocracking, and catalytic reforming.

Process Chemistry of Lubricant Base Stocks

Advances in processing methods are not only improving the quality and yield of lubricant base stocks, they are also reducing the dependence on more expensive crude oil starting materials. Process Chemistry of Lubricant Base Stocks provides a comprehensive understanding of the chemistry behind the processes involved in petroleum base stock production from crude oil fractions.

This book examines hydroprocessing technologies that, driven by the demand for higher performance in finished lubricants, have transformed processing treatments throughout the industry. The author relates the properties of base stocks to their chemical composition and describes the process steps used in their manufacture. The book highlights catalytic processes, including hydrocracking, hydrofinishing, and catalytic dewaxing. It also covers traditional solvent-based separation methods used to remove impurities, enhance performance, and improve oxidation resistance. The final chapters discuss the production of Food Grade white oils and paraffins and the gas-to-liquids processes used to produce highly paraffinic base stocks via Fischer-Tropsch chemistry.

Process Chemistry of Lubricant Base Stocks provides historical and conceptual background to the technologies used to make base stocks, thorough references, and a unique emphasis on chemical, not just engineering, aspects of lubricant processingmaking this book an ideal and practical reference for scientists across a wide range of disciplines.

Petroleum Refining: Technology and Economics

Continuing the high standards set by earlier editions, Petroleum Refining, Fourth Edition summarizes recent developments in oil refining processes, addressing topics ranging from basic applications to the implementation of viable operations that meet environmental and economic requirements. The authors maintain the clear, systematic style that made previous editions so popular. This edition reviews petroleum-refining technology and refining processes, incorporates recent statistics on utility data, investment, and operating costs, and considers environmental factors, the place of reformulated fuels in product distribution, and uses for heavier crude oils and those with higher sulfur and metal.
